The Academic Orchestra of Zurich (AOZ) was founded over 100 years ago and currently numbers about 80 members, mainly university students. It has won international acclaim in tours including Europe, Japan and Singapore, and strives to promote young, promising soloists and to offer them the opportunity to play with a symphony orchestra. The orchestra is led by Swiss Condctor Johannes Schlaefli, who is also the chief Conductor of the Bern Chamber orchestra. He has studied under Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, Kurt Masur and others and has been Professor for Orchestral Conducting at the Zurich University of Arts since 1999
