http://www.ripnet.com/sites/bos/ This year is a significant milestone for the Brockville Operatic Society, as it marks its 60th anniversary of providing the best in amateur theatre. This year’s production of the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic, Carousel, is fitting, as it too has been around for more than five decades, first airing as a movie in 1956. Classic Carousel tunes include “June Is Busting Out All Over” and “You'll Never Walk Alone.” To add to the nostalgia of this event, two of the operatic society’s alumni – James King, who plays Billy Bigelow, and Stephanie Hutton, playing Julie Jordon – have taken on the leading roles. Both of these talented individuals grew up with the society, performing in various productions since grade school. James is well on his way to pursuing a musical career, having graduated from the St. Lawrence College performing arts program last year. Stephanie completed an honours degree in theatre at Ottawa University and currently teaches high school drama in Brockville. “Stephanie and James are backed by a supportive and equally talented cast and crew and production team,” says Producer Jeneatha Oxley. The musical’s orchestra is directed by Howard Alexander, with show direction by Mary Hughes. |
