Step into the enchanted world of Broadway’s modern classic, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, an international sensation that has played to over 35 million people worldwide in 13 countries. Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature, the stage version includes all of the wonderful songs written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice. The original Broadway production ran for over thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

This “tale as old as time” is filled with spectacular costume and set opportunities or, even more simply staged, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast offers a great opportunity to bring your entire community together for family theatre at its best.

A trail is held and a jury must decide whether a boy is guilty or innocent.  This one decision could lead to the boy’s death.  The boy on trail is accused of murdering his father by stabbing him with a switch blade knife.

It seems that “he doesn’t stand a chance.” The evidence includes eyewitness testimony that does not stand in his favor.  As simple conversations turn into arguments that turn into fights, the juror’s personal prejudices become clear; biases and weaknesses alter their decision making.  Their anger, indifference, and unreliable judgments cause them to skew reality–that they ultimately hold a boy’s life in their hands.

Twelve Angry Men is a 1954 teleplay written by Reginald Rose for the Studio One anthology television series. Initially staged as a CBS live production on 20 September 1954, the drama was later rewritten for the stage in 1955 under the same title and again for a feature film, 12 Angry Men (1957). The episode garnered three Emmy Awards for writer Rose, director Franklin Schaffner and Robert Cummings as Best Actor.

THE NEXT GENERATION LEAHY

Sunday, December 17 at 7:00 p.m.

Tickets $29.50 + HST

This December, join The Next Generation Leahy as they share the magic of Christmas with you. Doug Leahy and his wife Jennifer, together with their children, bring over three generations of Leahy musicianship to their celebration through music, song, and dance.

Doug, as a member of “Leahy” and Jennifer, having played music throughout her life, both understand the delight and exhilaration only music can provide. It is no wonder then that their children understand innately that music will be a huge part of their lives. Even the smallest children feel the music pulsing through their veins.  They are drawn to it. They are passionate about it.

It is this drive to create music that has led Doug and Jennifer’s children to achieve so much, even at their young ages. Still all in elementary school, the children are accomplished multi-instrumentalists. Led by Doug, live performances are filled with the high-energy, infectious Celtic-based music people associate with the Leahy heritage. Fiddle, cello, French accordion, singing, piano, and French-Canadian step-dancing all find a voice on stage. This rare talent in children so young is an inspiration to other children and families alike, showing just what young people are capable of.

A Next Generation Leahy Christmas performance is all this and more. Not only do the Leahy children exhibit a joie de vivre in general, the focus on the beautiful music of the Christmas season makes the night truly magical. Audiences can’t help but be moved and are put in the right spirit for the arrival of Christmas.

The joy of music is meant for all, and Doug and his family are set on sharing that joy with each and every audience.

In the wake of the sexual revolution and the rise of the women’s movement, the 1973 tennis match between women’s world champion Billie Jean King (Emma Stone) and ex-men’s-champ and serial hustler Bobby Riggs (Steve Carell) was billed as the BATTLE OF THE SEXES and became one of the most watched televised sports events of all time, reaching 90 million viewers around the world. As the rivalry between King and Riggs kicked into high gear, off-court each was fighting more personal and complex battles. The fiercely private King was not only championing for equality, but also struggling to come to terms with her own sexuality, as her friendship with Marilyn Barnett (Andrea Riseborough) developed. And Riggs, one of the first self-made media-age celebrities, wrestled with his gambling demons, at the expense of his family and wife Priscilla (Elisabeth Shue). Together, Billie and Bobby served up a cultural spectacle that resonated far beyond the tennis court, sparking discussions in bedrooms and boardrooms that continue to reverberate today.
